Yoga Retreat
Yoga works in powerfully mysterious ways to reconnect us with our bodies, our senses, our breath, and the beauty of the world – all things we seem to forget in the churn of daily life. Sometimes people hesitate at the thought of a yoga retreat, because, after all, how much could 7 days actually change your life…?
Have you ever had an epiphany after taking a walk in the woods, standing on a mountain overlooking trees and sky, or soaking in the sun on a deserted beach? The idea seems cliché, but there’s something to it. When we give ourselves the chance to step away from our lives, even just for a moment, we see things more clearly. The to-do list falls away and the tasks lose their importance when we take the time to reconnect with nature, with the freedom of our breath, and with our true selves hidden underneath the clutter.  And most of the time it’s not one moment of bliss that ends up changing our lives for the better; it’s the soft, repeated memory of the freedom we found, the harmony we experienced with nature, or the immaculate elevation that comes with knowing that we are dreamers and peaceful warriors, constantly able to craft our lives into what we want them to be.
I created the Elevate Retreat to be a deep reminder of the beauty that surrounds us, and the gift of our bodies and our breath – things we all too easily take for granted. This retreat combines my love of dynamic asana to push through blockages and mental barriers – the non-truths we tell ourselves about our capabilities – as well as the introspection of meditation and all the wisdom that comes with allowing ourselves to be silent and still. My hope is that you will walk away from these 7 days with an elevated perspective on life. That you will take the time to stop and smell the roses, to recognize your body as a sacred gift, and to connect to something bigger than yourself – realizing that admiring the beauty of life is just as important (dare I say more important…?) than checking off tasks from the to-do list.
I am beyond thrilled to be guiding you on this 7 day retreat in a country that I love so much. I want this 7 days to be your perfect getaway – a harmonious mix of physical challenges and breakthroughs, deep relaxation, and time to explore Spain’s diverse culture. For that reason, I left room for you to pick and choose what your free time will look like, so you feel completely fulfilled, invigorated, and rested by the end of this fantastic journey. I can’t wait to welcome you to the Elevate Retreat 2017 in this little slice of paradise!

Yoga Retreat
Daily, all-levels yoga classes will be held in the mountain shala, a geometrical sanctuary with a panoramic view of the mountains. For beginner to advanced yogis, Jess caters every class to all levels and the goals and needs of the group. In the mornings, we will flow vinyasa style, exploring fun and challenging poses in a light-hearted, non-aggressive way. Evenings will be slower, more introspective classes based on the Yin/Yang model of blending slow, meditative movement with longer holds in the poses, for deep sensations and release of the muscles and fascia. Meditation and pranayama (breath work) sessions will be held after the Yin classes in the evenings as a way to bring depth and mindfulness into our daily practice by heightening the senses, our awareness, and our focus in the practice. All classes will explore themes based on yoga philosophy and Buddhist mindfulness meditation principles to explore the integration of the practice into daily life.
You will get personalized assistance and tips for your practice, and you also have the opportunity to book a private class with Jess if you so choose.

When I think of Spain, images of rolling countryside, warm breezes, amazing food and wine, sunshine, and a culture like none other come to mind. It’s a country most people only dream of visiting. I had the opportunity to live here for 9 months in 2014, and fell head over heels in love – with the people, the attitude, the positivity, the warmth, and the pure joy radiating from the country’s very heart outwards in all directions. I climbed the hills daily, looked out over the sprawling countryside and vastness of the sea, and felt truly uplifted – physically and mentally. This getaway is to invite in the feeling of being elevated, and from this different vantage point, seeing the bigger perspective and remembering the beauty that surrounds us.
The south of Spain is a simmering blend of cultures – the result of hundreds of years of conquests, invasions, and settlements. In modern times, that translates into an exotic, mysterious, and awe-inspiring mix of Arabic, Persian, Jewish, Moor, African, and European cultures, among others. Granada has it all, plus the beauty of the snow-capped Sierra Nevada mountains, sunny Mediterranean beaches, Turkish baths, Moroccan bazaars, flamenco, tapas, and one very special guest…our yoga retreat!
Just 15 minutes’ drive from Granada, our beautiful rural hotel and yoga playground is surrounded by the breathtaking natural landscape of the Sierra Nevada mountains.
Address: Granada Yoga Retreat Center, Pinos Puente, Granada, Spain
Arrival : By taxi, 20 minutes from the Granada airport (GRX), and 2 hours from the Malaga airport (AGP). If you wish to have an airport transfer from Granada or Malaga airport, we are happy to organize for you both pick up and drop off. You can also get to the house via train or bus to Granada. Both, buses and trains, leave Malaga or Sevilla city regularly throughout the day and we can come pick you up from the bus/train station in Granada.
Check-in is at 2 p.m. on November 27th, and check-out is 12:00 noon on December 3rd, so book your flights for those days, or choose to spend some extra time in Granada on your own before or after the retreat. The weather in southern Spain is relatively warm and mild in the winter months, and you can more than likely expect endless clear blue skies with lots of sun most days of the year.

Cater this retreat to your wants and needs by nurturing yourself with the quiet and the stillness of nature, or exploring the depth and diversity of Spanish Andalucian culture – we give you the freedom to make your time here exactly what you need it to be!

Horseback rides, short hikes in the mountains near the retreat center, a dip in the nearby lake, chilling at the beach (45 min. taxi ride), enjoying in-house massages and bodywork, lounging in the gardens, reading, journaling, and more.

We try our hand (and feet!) at dancing Flamenco in a rustic, hole-in-the-wall venue to the haunted sounds of Grenadian flamenco music, guided by a professional, local flamenco dancer. Afterwards, in a moody, cave-like establishment, we watch how the pros interpret this tragic dance. Live music, intense movements to castanets, this dance style encapsulates the tragic past of the city’s gypsies.
